How recycling IT works

A legal, efficient and FREE computer recycling process to dispose of such items as computers, laptops, PCs, servers and other computer equipment to help UK wildlife.

1) You complete the form on this website and arrange a collection of any IT equipment you wish to dispose of, working or not

The form can be found on the 'Arrange a 'Pick-Up' of IT Equipment page.  Once you have completed and submitted this, your collection will be organised and you will be given a collection date and an AM or PM pick-up slot.

2) Upon collection you will receive full documentation for the equipment collected to prove it has been disposed of legally

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive governs how IT equipment must be disposed of in Europe.  To ensure compliance, you must have documentation to evidence the responsible disposal of any equipment registered to your business.  Failure to have this may result in prosecution and fines of up to £10,000 if equipment registered to your business is subsequently found to have been disposed of illegally.

3) The equipment will be sorted and forensically wiped

Whether it is to be re-used or recycled all data will be forensically wiped clean to remove all trace of previous use.  This guarantees your compliance with the Data Protection Act in addition to your own business security.

4) Ethically disposed and contributing towards wildlife in the UK

If the equipment can be of use, it will be donated to your Local Wildlife Trust.  If it isn’t needed then it will be sold and the cash raised will be allocated towards a wildlife project. Where equipment is too old or not working, it will be broken down into its component elements and they will be recycled within the UK.  Whatever happens to your old IT equipment, using this service guarantees it is ethically disposed of, helps UK wildlife and cost your business nothing.

5) Get recognised for your efforts

All donations will receive a certificate from your Local Wildlife Trust thanking you for your contribution.  Where appropriate, a press release can be prepared (in conjunction with you) and distributed to local and trade press, as well as being featured on this and the Trust's website.  A great PR opportunity for your company.
